Vadivelu (sometimes Vadivel) is a leading comedian in the Tamil movie industryt.2000 he has dominated the movie scene in Kollywood, along with comedian Vivek. Born in the southern city of Madurai, Vadivelu is nicknamed. Vaigai puyal (the Vaigai storm, after the river Vaigai, which flows through the city). Starting as a sidekick to the famed Goundamani-Senthil comedy duo, he rose to prominence after his role in Kadhalan. His accent which resembles the Tamil spoken in southern Tamil Nadu landed him roles in Tamil movies with a village background.

In most movies, he plays a simpleton with good intentions but lands in trouble because of the circumstances or the eccentricities of the people he comes across. These roles involve heavy use of slapstick and puns, which has lead him to being typecast. However, recently, he has transitioned his comedy to suit urban audiences too, playing more varied characters..

Vivekanathan is a Tamil film comedian from India. In contrast to other comedians in Tamil cinema, Vivek is more of a satirist than a slapstick comedian.   His movies draw humor from scenes of daily life in Tamil Nadu (especially Chennai) and the surrounding regions.

His jokes often relate to serious subjects, such as bribery, over-population, and political corruption among other things. He is more conscientious and his comedy has more serious undertones than that of his contemporaries.
